We’re excited to introduce you to Cheryl Sanders, the Founder and Managing Director of WRAPPA, the world’s only certified palm oil-free reusable food wrap. Her “aha” moment for WRAPPA came along when she realised there was no vegan-friendly option to beeswax wraps on the market globally, which was surprising, considering how many people who were passionately environmental wanted an option to reduce single-use plastics. So in 2016, she decided to develop the world’s first plant-based wrap that was both vegan and environmentally friendly. And the rest they say is history.
Find out what inspires Cheryl, how she stays motivated during this challenging time and the best advice she’s been given.
How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
Someone with enough quirks and oddities to make me unique… or annoying, depending on who you ask.
What inspires you?
My family inspires me. My husband Trev, myself and our 14-year-old son. We are an unconventional little trio, but we are so good together and our home has a fabulous dynamic.
Do you have any daily rituals?
My first hour of the day is spent having my coffee on the couch, covered in an assortment of fur babies, while I watch my son doing whatever it is that he wants to do. This is his uninterrupted hour and we both cherish it.
What are you currently reading?
The Caliph’s House by Tahir Shah. It’s a fabulous book about a man and his family who move to Morocco to renovate an old house. Feeding my love for all things Moroccan.
How do you stay creative and motivated during this challenging time?
Every day I remind myself how fortunate we are that we can run our business as a family. This keeps me focused and motivated. If you ask Trev, he will tell you that my brain does not switch off. It is ticking 24/7 and the creative side rarely needs additional motivation.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Always buy the best you can afford. If you buy something that is a quality product, it may cost more initially, but you will have that for a much longer time than if you buy a cheaper alternative. Buy well and buy once.
One book that changed your worldview and how?
The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) by Antione de Saint-Exupery. I read this as a curious 16-year-old beatnik and it has been etched into my heart ever since.
What are you looking forward to in 2020?
I’m actually looking forward to seeing how this crazy year pans out. I am curious about any lasting effects on how we all live and work on a day to day basis. What will change? What will stay the same?
